Creation of FREEJUMP
Founded by Yann Dubourg in Bordeaux.
Founded by Yann Dubourg in 2001 in Bordeaux, FREEJUMP quickly established itself as a pioneering brand dedicated to rider safety. Recognized for its innovations combining elegance, comfort, and performance, FREEJUMP is today the world leader in safety stirrups and equestrian airbags.
Celebrated in over 60 countries, the brand has become an essential reference for both professional and amateur riders. Its first major success was the single-branch X’UP stirrup, equipped with an automatic release in case of a fall, inspired by bicycle pedal systems. This stirrup led to the SOFT’UP range, consolidating FREEJUMP’s position as the number one brand for safety single-branch stirrups.
FREEJUMP then made its mark on the industry with the development of the first range of sport shoes and chaps, as well as the first airbag vest certified according to the NF S72-800 standard. More recently, the brand was pioneering the first riding helmet with removable temporal protection, reducing the risk of trauma to the most vulnerable part of the skull.
Today, FREEJUMP offers a complete range of innovative equipment, from helmets to technical clothing, designed to support riders in all disciplines. True to our mission, we continue to innovate to provide the best possible protection while enhancing comfort and elegance.
Our goal is to develop innovative equipment that places rider safety at the heart of every product while improving comfort and sporting performance.
Driven by a constant spirit of innovation, we invest in research and development to guarantee the quality and competitiveness of our equipment. Each product is the result of close collaboration between our engineers, designers, and rider partners.
We work hand in hand with the world’s top riders – Ludger Beerbaum, Kevin Staut, Pénélope Leprevost, Martin Fuchs, Peder Fredricson, and many others – whose expertise and feedback are essential for refining our products and maintaining the excellence that defines our reputation.

All our products are designed and developed by our design office in Bordeaux (France). We test each of our innovations in-house, with the historic support of some of the world's top riders. All our helmets, stirrups and airbags are manufactured in our workshop in Bordeaux. We make it a point of honour to guarantee the quality of our products and to ensure compliance with the strictest standards at every stage of production, from the initial design phase through to final testing.
We are committed to minimizing our impact on the environment and promoting respect for human and equine well-being at every level: choice of materials, product design, selection of partners, recycling and waste management.
We carry out a methodical control of materials to ensure that their quality is beyond reproach and that they are safe to use. We select materials from responsible sources and validated by high-level organizations.
At FREEJUMP, we are firmly committed to minimizing our impact on the environment and promoting respect for human and equine well-being.
We carefully select our materials and partners, giving preference to those who adopt management practices that respect the environment and the well-being of workers.
We attach great importance to the design of our packaging, not only to enhance the value of our products, but also to protect them during transport and reduce their environmental impact. We keep the use of plastic in our packaging to a minimum, preferring alternative, environmentally-friendly materials. We implement effective recycling programs to reduce our ecological footprint and minimize waste production. Thanks to the acquisition of a specific furnace, we have set up a recycling program that enables us to separate steel from plastics and recycle our stirrups efficiently.
Since the creation of our first product, the FREEJUMP COLLAR, all our innovations have been designed with the comfort of both rider and horse in mind. Each product has its own unique character that sets it apart from conventional mass production. For several years now, we have been working with the Jump Éthique association, which promotes respect and kindness towards animals as fundamental ethical requirements in the equestrian world.
The materials we select for our products are of the highest quality and come from responsible sources. We use high-performance, lightweight components such as carbon fibre and fibreglass to guarantee unrivalled durability and safety.
Our stirrups are made from high-tech steels sourced from the best European steelworks, such as ThyssenKrupp and ArcelorMittal. The outer leg of single-arm stirrups is made from Elastollan®, a flexible, high-performance material that allows the leg to open in the event of a fall and return to its original shape.
The elastomers used to overmould our products are mainly made from recycled materials. However, we avoid materials of plant origin so as not to contribute to deforestation and conflicts with food crops.
At FREEJUMP, our commitment goes beyond simply manufacturing innovative products; we also promote values of respect, ethics, reliability and sustainability at every stage of our process.
